Jim is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach. He lives in Franklin Park, PA with Karen, his wife of 35 years; both are graduates of Pitt (BSCE ’82) and Lifetime Alumni Club Members. Jim is the father of 3 grown children, Rachel, Tim, and Becca. Rachel and Becca both played youth Girls hockey, and Becca went on to play 4 years of college hockey.
Jim has coached girls ice hockey for over 10 years, holding both assistant and head coaching positions in the North Pittsburgh Wildcats organization at the U12, U14, and U19 levels. He attended the USA Hockey Women’s National Camp at the 17-18 year old level as an Intern Coach in 2006, having the opportunity to work alongside many NCAA Division 1 Women’s team coaches, as well as USA Hockey Women’s National Team staff. Jim was a founding board member and assistant coach of the Steel City Selects Girls Hockey Association whose tenure included a Mid-Am District Championship which earned the team a trip to the U19 USA Hockey Tier II Girls Nationals in 2012. His coaching experience also extends to girls soccer and softball, including five years as Vice President of Softball for the Ingomar Franklin Park Athletic Association.
Jim was heavily involved in the development of Girls Ice Hockey in the Pittsburgh Area. He is a certified Put the Biscuit in the Net Instructor and has held several PBN programs for the Girl Scouts. He was a board member of the North Pittsburgh Wildcats as Director of Girls Hockey Development where he founded a Learn to Play Hockey for Girls program. Jim is responsible for introducing hundreds of girls to this sport.
Hal is a USA Hockey certified level 3 coach. Hal lives with his wife of 29 years, Sue, and their two college age sons, Garrett and Jayson, in Allison Park. Hal has a wide and extensive coaching background. Hal’s coaching experience extends from Am Pens Ice Hockey to Hampton High School In-line Hockey and includes Shaler and Hampton Soccer and Basketball and some lacrosse, baseball, and ultimate frisbee as well.
Hal's philosophy is "Play Hard! Play Fair!”. He served his country for 30 years in the US Marine Corps Reserves and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Hal has owned an elder law practice for the past 20 years and since 2013, Hal has served as member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Hal is excited to help the PWH girls to have fun while doing their best, seeking self-improvement, and becoming a better player and a better citizen every day of their life.
Ron Walkowski is a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the owner of The House O’ Hockey. Ron started his hockey career at the age of 15, playing goalie for the Fox Chapel Foxes, where he won the AA Championship in 1979. After high school, Ron played goal for the Amateur Penguins before moving to play Jr College Hockey for Erie Community College in Buffalo New York. Ron has been an instructor for Can/Am and Stars in Canada where he worked with NHL Players such as Gordie Howe, Eric Lindros, and Scott Stevens. He has been an instructor for Greg Millen Goalie Schools, Rick Heinz Goalie Camps, and Bob Gergerich International Hockey College. Ron has also scouted for a Junior “A” hockey team and several college teams.
Following his playing career, Ron coached all levels of youth hockey, from developmental to the junior college. He was an assistant for Brockport High School, Brockport State College, and Erie Community College. For the past 30 years, Ron has worked with local youth, providing small group and individual goaltending and skating lessons.
Ron is the owner of House O’ Hockey, a retail hockey equipment store that specializes in correctly outfitting youth hockey players in the area. The House O’ Hockey has been open since 1991.
Emily R. Koren is a former Division I and Division III NCAA college hockey player. She played at Boston College (1998-2000) and Hamilton College (2000-2002). She played semi-professionally for the ZSC Lions in Zurich, Switzerland from 2003 to 2004. Emily returned to the east after living in Colorado and California for the past 12 years where she taught high school Spanish and social studies. Emily is a doctoral student in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Education. Hockey remains a passion of hers, and she continues to play actively in local leagues. She is thrilled to help Pitt Women's Hockey progress to the next level.
Anthony is senior at Slippery Rock University majoring in Homeland Security with a minor in Leadership. He started his college journey at Gannon University and played hockey for the university team before transferring. His love of hockey began at age 7 when he began playing roller hockey. He started playing ice hockey in 7th grade.
Anthony works at the Mid-Atlantic Youth Services in Emlenton, PA and aspires to work for a federal agency. Competition and dedication drive his actions, and he leads by example. He helps the team in building their skills, fostering camaraderie and motivating to work toward a common goal.
